Dačice is one of the oldest towns in the Czech-Moravian Highlands. The town’s
original Gothic buildings were renovated during the Renaissance by the family
Krajíř z Krajku. Besides the Church of St. Lawrence, Dačice also has two
chateaus from the Renaissance era, though one was later renovated in Empire.
In 1843 the world’s first sugar cube was made in Dačice. There is a marker
commemorating the event on the town’s second square.
