Třešť

Region Renaissance

Třešť is often called the “town of the Nativity scene”. The art of building elaborate models of the town Bethlehem has a long tradition here. You can learn all about it at a permanent exhibit at the home of important world economist J.A. Schumpeter, or from the makers themselves during the Christmas holidays. The Jewish community, which settled in the town in the 13th century, left behind a synagogue in Empire style and a Jewish cemetery. The sundial on the town’s main square is the largest in Central Europe. Writer Franz Kafka often spent time in Třešť; the exposition Zaváté stopy (Snow-Covered Tracks) is devoted to him. Just outside the town begins the national protected nature area Velký Špičák.
